Karaj Esperantistoj,

Just a few days from our course, we have more than the resources we
need, as much has been going on in the past month.

We've had a bit of a mail mixup, with no concrete address, so in future,
bonvolu sendi all mail to:

Website: http://www.esperanto.org.au/newcastle.html

Coming events:
Next meeting: Saturday, 2nd November at 3pm at the Newcastle EcoHome
67a Hobart Rd. New Lambton 2305 (diagonally opposite West's). If you are
interested in coming, please give some forewarning by contacting me. We
will probably have a few more attendants than the past, because there will
be many new esperantists from the course.

EcoHome (same as for meeting). We are hoping for around 15 people.
Cost $5 with free followups, pay on day. Books may be bought on the

please let us know so we have a rough idea of numbers. Terry Manley will
be the guest teacher from the NSK Esperanto Federacio (NSW Esperanto
Federation)

Zamenhof Day: Sun 15th December. There will be festivities in Sydney on
SATURDAY 14TH December, and we may be training down to Sydney as a

Association News:
On Saturday, October 5th we had our regular society meeting. One of our
newer members, Kim Au, attended, and we made final preparations for the
course.

Our group numbers have grown to 9 members. Kim Au and Mark Hetherington,
who both attended one of Janet Rawling's talk and have learnt Esperanto in
recent years, have both shown interest in reviving our local "ondo". Although
Mark will be moving to Sydney in a little over a month, it is encouraging to see
more and more Esperantists being found in our area. They are both studying
at Newcastle University, and Mark found out about Esperanto largely through
the movie "Red Dwarf"! We have also been in contact with Evon Arthur, who
used to meet to speak Esperanto with Janet Rawling's father, Wal Rawling, and
several other Newcastle Esperantists who we would be interested to get in
contact with as well.

On Monday, 7th October, Esperantist Margaret Chaldecott came for the day
from Sydney to meet our group and give books and pamphlets for our group.
Meeting in Hamilton, our conversations were almost entirely in Esperanto and
it was interesting to be able to talk about the Esperanto movements around NSW.

On Sunday, 8th October, we had a corner of a table at the Youth Street Fair.
Although we didn't get many pamphlets handed out, it was a good way to be
a part of Newcastle's cultural events. It was the second day of the Fair, and there
was an enactment of Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax", a mini-circus, a breakdancing
demonstration and more.

The Baha'i community has been very helpful in spreading Esperanto awareness
in Newcastle, and has helped us to find Mrs. S James of Lemontree Passage. We
haven't got a working phone number for her yet, but will write to her soon. There
have also been suggestions for teaching Esperanto classes somewhere in Newcastle,
like University of the Third Age (U3A). This would be a long-term project that we
would be interested in looking at.

En tiu spirito,

Jonathan Moylan
