=============NOVKASTELA ESPERANTA ASOCIO==========
================Newsletter Edition 1: May 2002=============
Dear Esperantists,
For the sake of Dr. Banney (and any others who aren't strong in
Esperanto), I am writing in English.
We are the sole members of the rapidly growing Esperanto Association
in Newcastle. This is our first newsletter. I hope it will be regular.
The Association has grown from one member to four (and possibly
another two soon) in a few months. This is probably why the previous
Esperanto Association didn't last long - not enough members!
Nevertheless, this Association will be an asset to the city, its
tourists
and Esperantists. I am sure we will continue growing at the same rate.
Association News:
Active member of the NSK Esperanto Association Edna Turvey has
phoned me, and informed me of the Redfern Esperanto house
(of which I am already informed by Robert). The only information about
the former Esperanto Association she has is two members: Andrew,
and someone called Mrs. James. I don't know who she is, and she
will be almost impossible to find, but if any of you have information
about her, PLEASE contact me.
Esperantist and Professor of Mathematics at Newcastle Uni Professor
Paul Smrz has been contacted, and I am still waiting for his reply.
Maybe some of you will recognise his name from an article written about
him by controversial Newcastle Herald writer Jeff Corbett (Two wheel
wobblers, NH 19/4). When Andrew told me that Prof. Smrz taught
him Esperanto, I recognised his name from the article. I told my
father this weird coincidence, and he said he knew him from when the
university was a lot smaller. Well, isn't the world small!
The Association is closely in contact with the Esperanto Association
in Manly, particularly Terry Manley, and Matt Maguire.
Robert has a lot to do with the Manley Club.
Andrew suggested that we have an information table at the cultural
Stomp festival on Saturday 1st June. I think it's a great idea, and I
would love more information from Andrew (hint, hint). This would
definitely raise local awareness about Esperanto.
Well, we still haven't had a meeting yet, and it must be about time.
Purely as a suggestion, what about some Saturday afternoon at Civic
Park? If anyone else has any ideas, I would love to hear it.
And finally, I have kickstarted the Esperanto Association, but I'm
only 14 years old, and maybe it is time for someone else to take charge.
I'm quite happy to continue running things if nobody else wants to,
but if anybody does, just ask!
Well, that's it I think, quite a bit for our first newsletter!
If there is any more news, please write to me.
G^is baldaux (until soon),
Jonathan Moylan
