=============NOVKASTELA ESPERANTA ASOCIO==========
================Newsletter Edition 2: June 2002============
Dear Esperantists,
Many people have requested this newsletter, and it now is going out
to twelve people (six of whom do not speak Esperanto). Therefore this
newsletter still has an English version.
This is our second newsletter of the rapidly growing Esperanto group,
and our newsletters will be published on the Association website
(http://www.geocities.com/Esperanto_N/NEA.html)
The Association has now another person interested in joining, Blake
Smith. Blake is keen on learning Esperanto, and is also interested in
buying an "Esperanto Teacher" book, kindly sent to us by Edna
Turvey for the purposes of Stomp (but more on that later). We look
forward to hearing more from Blake. This will help our group stay young!
Blake is around my age.
Association News:
On Saturday, the 1st of June, we had an information table at the
cultural Stomp festival (of which Andrew is one of the organisers.)
Edna sent some books for us to sell, but we weren't allowed to sell
anything at Stomp. However, Blake Smith (as I mentioned before)
is interested in some of the books we have. At Stomp, we met a
religious group from the Ba'ha'i religion. One of their beliefs is to
have
an international auxiliary language, and they were very interested
in our group. I am waiting to hear from one of the Ba'ha'i members,
who I met on the day. Around 100 brochures were given out,
and many people were informed about Esperanto, and we confirmed
to many people: no, Esperanto was not a dead language, and was
in fact the UNESCO supported international language.
We are thinking of having an Association meeting the first Saturday
of next month somewhere in New Lambton, maybe the Eco House??
If anyone has any ideas, like a cafe or private house, we should
look into that.
We now have many books on our hands, which we should send
back to Edna Turvey if we can't sell them, but we would love to be
able to sell them, or buy some for the Association. We did not
recieve any donations, and are hoping that we can pay the NSW
Esperanto Federation's membership fee ($10). If we can get at least
$15 in donations, we can keep our Association strong. Nobody
likes talking about fiscal matters, but it needs to be done. Maybe
we can have an Esperanto course sometime this year...
Don Harlow is keeping a list of Esperanto Organisations (link from
our website), and he will include us soon, but he has not yet.
We still haven't found Mrs. James, and would love to hear from her
if anyone knows who she is.
Esperantist and Professor of Mathematics at Newcastle Uni Professor
Paul Smrz has finally replied. He has not spoken Esperanto for many
years, and does not wish to take part in the Association. Oh well, maybe
later.
To finish off on the same note as the last letter, if anyone wants to
take
over leadership of our group, go right ahead!
That sums it up for our second newsletter.
If there is any more news, please write to me.
G^is baldaux (until soon),
Jonathan Moylan
