Felicxan novan jaron! Jen la unua novajxletero de 2004. La pasinta
monato estis tre sukcesa, sed mi jam raportis pri la plejmulto de
la pasinta monato cxar la novajxletero estis malfrua. Nia kunveno
estis pli-malpli granda, kaj 4 homoj aligxis al la AEA.

Okazontoj:

Post la rezigno de Trevor Steele (auxstraliano), Osmo Buller revenos
al sia posteno kiel Gxenerala Direktoro de la UEA. Kvankam
atendite, multaj esperantistoj, inkluzive de komitatanoj, gxojis
kaj gratulis S-ro Buller. "La plej bona novajxo de la lastaj du jaroj!

La papo refoje donis sian Kristnaskan saluton en
Esperanto. Kiam li komencis paroli en Esperanto, grupo de
Esperantistoj gxoje kriis kaj tenis sxildon kun la skribo
"Esperanto" por danki la papon. Kelkaj televidstacioj
montris la sxildon. Pli da informo vi trovos cxe la retejo
de la IKUE (Internacia Katolika Unio Esperantista).

National je Dimancxo, 11a Januaro je 8.45atm kaj
je Lundo, 12a Januaro je 2.15ptm. Ni ne scias la
temon de la parolo, sed lia antauxa parolo pri
Esperanto je la sama sekcio de Radio National,

Kaj jen iom malpli serioza novajxo: Je Mardo, la 16an
de Decembro (do la tago post Zamenhof-tago) en Prenzlauer
Berg, Berlino, la ofecejulino de la kulturasocio venis al
sxia laborejo kaj trovis senposedantan valizon. Timante
terurisman bombon, sxi tuj vokis al la polico. Kun lumoj
kaj sirenoj, policano tuj venis. La zorganto de la E-grupo
suspektis ke la valizo estis forgesita de la libroservo cxe
la Zamenhoffesto. Sed logxanto cxe la domo klamis ke
li ne vidis tiun valizon tiun matenon, kaj la policano
evakuis la domon kaj fermigis la kvartrakan straton, interrompante
la bus- kaj tramliniojn. Policano pafis al la valizo, sed la
pafajxo iris tra la valizo sen esplodo. Li reprovis de alia
angulo, sed nenio okazis. Malfermigante la valizon oni
trovas la jubilelibro por Auld, liaj Pajleroj kaj stoploj - - kaj
la libro "Homo" de Miezelaitis. Oni baldaux ekspozicios
la valizon kaj librojn cxe la Germana Esperanto-Arhxivo.

Happy new year! Here's the first newsletter of 2004. The past month has
been very successful, but I have already reported most of last month
because the newsletter was late. Our meeting was fairly big, and 4
people became members or renewed memberships for the AEA.

Coming events:
Next meeting: Saturday, 31st January at 3pm at the Newcastle EcoHome
(67a Hobart Rd. New Lambton 2305, diagonally opposite West's). If you
wish to come, please let me know by email or otherwise. All are welcome!

AEA/NZEA Congress: 19th until the 25th of January 2004 at the Margate
Conference Centre, Redcliffe (Queensland). If you wish to participate or

Societaj novajxoj:
Our monthly meeting took place on Saturday, January 3rd at the
EcoHome. Andrew, Josh, Tony, Jonathan and Jonathan's twin
sister - Melanie - attended. We reported a bit on the events of the
month and swept the paths to help the EcoHome for a few
minutes before our lesson. We did the first and second lessons
of "Jen Nia Mondo" and discussed a few expressions like
"Nedankinde" (you're welcome), and the usage of the suffix
"-in" (feminine). Of course, everyone understood everything
and the lesson was enjoyable practise.

Unfortunately, Sue (the resident of the EcoHome) and Shanie
(Sue's daughter) Hill will move out this month, but the said that
the next resident will probably let us continue having our
meetings there. We will probably see them in the future, and
they are both continuing to learn Esperanto.

For the coming meetings:
Every meeting from now on, we will be learning from "Jen Nia
Mondo", and after a few months we can get rid of English
at our meetings.

News from the world of Esperanto:

After the resignation of Trevor Steele (Australian), Osmo Buller
will come back to his position as General Director of the UEA.
Although it was expected, many esperanists, including members
of the committee, were very happy and congratulated Mr. Buller.
"The best news of the last two years! The return of so much
experience, qualification and energy makes one hope for the
quick softening of the crisis and even regrowth," said Aleksandr
Korjenkov.
Buller wishes to restore balance between costs and methods
by a cautious policy. "My readiness to return firstly shows a
desire to serve an association which has been dear to me
since I joined 35 years ago," said Osmo Buller in an interview
with Libera Folio. "Steele convinced me to pose my
candidature."
Mr. Steele resigned because he no longer wished to be
responsible for the misfunction of the UEA. The fees for
the UEA remain very high and membership of the UEA
continues to drop. Although only Buller was interviewed,
nobody but the UEA committee and the selection committee
knows how many people posed their candidature. Read

The pope has once again given his Christmas greetings
in Esperanto. When he started to speak in Esperanto, a
group of Esperantists cheered and held up a sign saying
"Esperanto" to thank the pope. Several television stations
showed the sign. More information is available at the website
of the IKUE (International Catholic Esperanto Union).

Anton Oberndorfer wishes to inform that the Esperanto
Internet Radio (previously at linz.orf.at) no longer
functions, and so, from the start of this year, the Internet
Radio will move to
http://members.aon.at/aldone/retradio/index.html, although
the redirecting addresses http://retradio.start.at and
http://retradio.dr.ag continue to work. The previous pages
will be moved little by little to the new webpage.

Kep Enderby, a former judge of the Australian High
Court and honorary lifelong member of the Australian
Esperanto Association, will be speaking on Radio
National on Sunday, 11th January at 8.45am and
on Monday, 12th January at 2.15pm. We don't know
the subject of the talk, but his previous talk about
Esperanto on the same section of Radio National

Here's some less serious news: On Tuesday, the 16th of
December (the day after Zamenhof day), in Prenzlauer Berg,
Berlin, the office secretary of the cultural association came
to work and found a suitcase with no owner. Suspecting
a terrorist bomb, she immediately called the police. With
lights and sirens, a police officer arrived. The organiser of the
Esperanto group suspected that the suitcase was forgotten
by the book service at the Zamenhof celebration. But
a resident of the house claimed that he had not seen the suitcase
that morning, and the police evacuated the house and closed
the four-lane street, interrupting the bus and tram lines. A
police officer shot at the suitcase, but the shot went through
the suitcase without any explosion. He tried again from another
angle, but nothing happened. Opening the suitcase, they
found the jubilee book for Auld, his Pajleroj kaj stoploj, and
the book "Homo" by Miezelaitis. The suitcase and books
will soon be exposed at the German Esperanto Archive.
