Mi tre pardonpetas pro la malfrua sendo de cxi tiu novajxletero. Dum la
pasintaj kelkaj monatoj mi estis tiom aktiva, ke mi ne trovis tempon
por ecx gxisdatigi vin!
Cxi tiu novajxletero inkluzivas tri monatojn. La plej granda novajxo
estas la probabla restarigo de Esperanto-kurso cxe WEA - kiu unue
okazis en Novkastelo en 1923! Pliaj detaloj sube.
Mi ankaux informas vin ke ni havas novan renkontigxon cxiun
trian jxauxdon de la monato cxe la Octapod. Gxi igxos infana kurso.

Societaj novajxoj:
Oni povas legi en la libro "Esperanto en Auxstralio", verkita
de Ray Ross, ke en 1923, 30 homoj aligxis al kurso okazigita
cxe Worker's Education Association - Laborista Eduka Asocio.
Tiu asocio nun simple nomigxas WEA kaj staras en la historia
domo de Arnott's Biskvita Firmao. Antaux pluraj monatoj, mi
aplikis por posteno kiel Esperanto-instruisto cxe WEA, esperante
ke ili nur legos la leteron kaj scios pri Esperanto. Mi havis
tre pozitivan intervjuon antaux kelkaj tagoj kaj ili rekontaktos
min baldaux. Estas tre probable, ke ili akceptos la kurson kiu
komencos malfrue en Julio.

Nia cxiumonata kunveno okazis je Sabato, Aprilo 3a cxe
la Ekologia Hejmo. Ni havis kvar eksternovkastelaj
vizitantoj - Hanna Messner, cxehxino de Gosford, Frank
Stephan, germano el Sidnejo, kaj Bill kaj Betty Aulsebrook, niaj
membroj el Bateau Bay. Frank faris longan paroladon pri
Germanujo kaj la pligrandigxo de la Euxropa Unio. Hanna
ne havis multan tempon por paroli, sed sxi donacis diversajn
librojn al nia klubo.

Je Mardo, Aprilo 13a, mi vizitis la oficejon de nia loka
parlamentano Sharon Grierson. S-ino Grierson akceptis
fari 400 fotokopiojn de nia letero al la lernejanoj pri nia
infana kurso. Kvankam mi ne mem rekontis sxin, S-ino
Grierson legis leteron de mi pri Esperanto kaj nia klubo,
kiu tre imponis sxin.

Je Lundo, Majo 3a, Andrew kaj mi faros prezentadon pri
Esperanto cxe St. Philip's lernejo. La prezentado estos
por mezlernejaj infanoj inter la agxoj de 10 kaj 14 jaroj.
Ni disdonos invitleteron kun responda sekcio, kaj mi
poste kolektos cxiun respondon pozitivan aux negativan.
Ni esperas, ke kelkaj infanoj aligxos al nia senkosta
infana kurso kaj la aliaj infanoj kaj ties gepatroj almenaux legos
pri Esperanto.

Je la fino de la jaro, okazos en Novkastelo "This is Not
Art" festo (Cxi Tio Ne Estas Arto). Dum tri monatoj antaux
ol la festo, estos interreta radio por la festo. Nia societo
proponis Esperanto-sekcion, kaj ni esperas ke ili akceptos
la proponon.

Esperanto nun reaktivas en Indonezio! S-ro Hazairin Junep,
kreinto de la Instituto pri Filologiaj kaj Religiaj Studoj en Yogyakarta
(pron. Jogjakarta), nun volas komenci Esperanto-instruadon.
Ni intertempe trovis kelkajn aliaj esperantistojn kaj interesitojn
en Indonezio. Por subteni S-ro Junep aux la Oceania komisiono,
bv. sendi monon al Steve Pitney aux rekte al la konto de
la Oceania Komisiono cxe UEA.

Je Jxauxdo, 1a de Aprilo, la Euxropa Parlamento vocxdonis
pri Esperanto. Antauxe, la konstitucia komisiono malakceptis
Esperanton, sed nur per 14 voxdonoj kontraux 12. Amendo
por realdoni la Esperanto-parto de la propono malsukcesis
ankaux en la Euxropa Parlamento, sed ankoraux restis
mencion pri Esperanto en la suba parto de la propono. La
kulturministro de Francujo, kiu neniam mem spertis Esperanton,
klamis ke Esperanto ne havas kulturon. Tial, la Euxropa
Parlamento malakceptis la proponon.

Je la 2a de Aprilo forpasis pastoro Adolf Burkhardt, kiu dum
multaj jaroj estis prezidanto de KELI - Kristana Evangelia Ligo
Internacia. La Internacia Katolika Unio Esperanta esprimis
sian kondolencon. Cxi tio montras la unueco de homoj en
Esperantujo - oni ne apartigxas ecx pro religiaj kialoj. Por

Esperanto, kiel ni scias, estas la plej efika ekzistanta vojo al

I'm very sorry for the lateness of this newsletter. I have been so active
for the last few months that I didn't even find time to update you!
This newsletter includes three months. The biggest news is the probable
recommencement of an Esperanto course at WEA - which first
existed in Newcastle in 1923! More details below.
I'd also like to inform you that we have a new meeting every third
Thursday of the month at the Octapod. It will become a children's
course.

Coming events:
Next meetings: Saturday, 1st May at 3pm at the Newcastle EcoHome,
67a Hobart Rd. New Lambton 2305 (diagonally opposite West's). If
you want to come, please let me know by email or otherwise. All are
welcome!

Thursday, 20th May at 4pm at the Octapod (TPI House, Unit 3/231
King St. Newcastle, opposite Civic Park). This meeting will be a
children's course, and we will introduce our course to the children
and parents: all are welcome.

Saturday, 29th May: Stomp cultural festival. Some of you will remember
the Stomp cultural festival which will happen again this year. As usual,
NES will have a table there, and in addition - al the signs will be in
two languages - English and Esperanto! Come to help, give moral support,
or just to enjoy the harmonious atmosphere! Remember, you are already
deeply linked to everyone in this world.

Society news:
In "Esperanto in Australia", Ray Ross writes that in 1923, 30
people joined a course held at Worker's Education Association.
That association is now simply called WEA and is situated in
the historical house of the Arnott's Biscuit Company. A few
months ago, I applied for a position as an Esperanto teacher at
WEA, only hoping that they would read the letter and know
about Esperanto. I had a very positive interview a few days ago,
and they will contact me soon. It's very probable that they will
accept the course which will commence late in July.

Our monthly meeting took place on Saturday, April 3rd at
the EcoHome. We had four visitors - Hanna Messner, a
Czech lady from Gosford, Frank Stephan, a German man
from Sydney, and Bill and Betty Aulsebrook, our members from
Bateau Bay. Frank gave a long talk about Germany and the
expansion of the European Union. Hanna didn't have much
time to speak, but she donated various books to our club.

On Tuesday, 13th April, I visited the office of our local member
of parliament, Sharon Grierson. Ms. Grierson accepted to do
400 photocopies of our letter to the school students about our
children's couse. Although I didn't meet her myself, Ms. Grierson
read a letter from me about Esperanto and our club, which
apparently impressed her.

On Monday, 3rd May, Andrew and I will give a presentation
about Esperanto at St. Philip's. The presentation will be for
middle school students between the ages of 10 and 14 years. We
will give out an invitation with a reply slip, and I will collect all replies
later on - whether they intend to attend or not. We hope, that a few
students will join our free children's course and the other children
and their parents will at least read about Esperanto.

At the end of the year, there will be a "This is Not Art" festival held
in Newcastle. For three months before the festival, there will be an
internet radio for the festival. Our society has suggested an Esperanto
section, and we hope that they will accept the suggestion.

News from the Esperanto world:

Esperanto is now active in Indonesia again! Mr. Hazairin Junep, the
founder of the Institute of Philological and Religious Studies in Yogyakarta,
now wants to start teaching Esperanto. We have already found several
other Esperanto speakers and interested people in Indonesia. To support
Mr. Junep or the Oceania Commission, please send money to Steve
Pitney or directly to the account of the Oceania Commission at the UEA.

On Thursday, 1st of April, the European Parliament voted on Esperanto.
Beforehand, the Constitutional Committee had rejected Esperanto, but only
by 14 votes to 12. An amendment to put back the Esperanto part of the
proposition also failed in the European Parliament, but a mention of
Esperanto remains in the bottom of the passed proposition. The
culture minister of France, who has never had any experience of Esperanto,
claimed that Esperanto does not have a culture. For that reason, the
European Parliament rejected the proposal.

On the 4th of April, the Esperanto section of Radio Poland turned

On the 2nd of April, pastor Adolf Burkhardt passed away. Mr. Burkhardt
was for many years the president of KELI - Christian Evangelical
Esperanto League. The International Catholic Esperanto Union
have expressed their condolences. This shows the unity of people
in the Esperanto world - there is no division even for religious reasons.

The 6th European Union Congress of Esperanto will take place from
the 25th to the 29th of May in Bilbao, Spain. You can find more

New section for opinions:
Esperanto, as we know, is the most effective existing way to
international understanding. But the governments have not yet
accepted it, whether that's because of misunderstanding or
ignorance. In your opinion, what is the most effective way to make
