Jonathan kaj Bill Aulsebrook cxe-estis. Bill finfine rericevis

Ni akceptis Andrew Spannenberg kiel nia sekretario kaj Jonathan
Moylan kiel prezidanto. Ni ankaux akceptis raporton por iri al la
loka konsilantaro, priskribante niajn agadojn, historion kaj strukturon
kaj ni akceptis la donacon de la Esperanto-Federacio de NSK.
Bedauxrinde, Sue kaj Shani ne cxe-estis, sed post telefonvoko
al Sue poste mi eksciis ke ili translokigxos je la fino de Januaro
kaj ni povas peti de la venontan logxanton permeson por dauxre
estigi niajn kunvenojn cxe la Ekologia Hejmo. Shani multe lernas
de la afisxoj (pronomoj, koloroj, tabelvortoj, ktp) kiujn ni lasis
je la pasintan kunvenon.

Je Sabato, la 13a de Decembro okazis la Zamenhof-festo cxe
Esperanto-Domo en Redfern (Sidnejo). Cxirkaux 40 homoj cxeestis
sed Andrew Spannenberg estis la nura Novkastelano. "Gxi estis
bonega oportuno por komuniki kun homoj en Esperanto kaj
timi pri frazoj kiujn mi ne komprenas," diris Andrew. Bedauxrinde,
Andrew venis post la performado kaj jxus antaux la mangxado,
sed li vidis la finon de la pupet-teatrajxo.

Jes, refoje presigxis artikolo pri Esperanto en "The Newcastle
Herald". Min informis pri la artikolo nekonatulo kiu demandis
"Kio estas Esperanto?". Sxi ne deziris lerni Esperanton aux
scii pri nia grupo, sed sxi simple diris, "Ni nur scivolis". Jen la
plena artikolo kiel presita je Merkredo, la 17an de Decembro
en "Topics" (Temoj). Por la artikolo en la angla lingvo, vidu
en la angllingva sekcio de la novajxletero.

Jen iom da lernada amuzado. La Novkastela Esperanto-Societo
estigas konkurson por lerni Esperanton. Tiu, kiu lernas Esperanton
plej rapide gajnos vojagxon al la Auxstralia Esperanto-Kongreso en
Brisbano, estigota de Januaro 19-25. Vojagxado estos per buso kaj
jugxado okazos cxe la Novkastela Ekologia Hejmo (67a Hobart Rd.
New Lambton) je Sabato, Januaro 3, je la 3a ptm. Por pli da informado,

Hieraux vespere, virino kiu legis la artikolon kontaktis min kaj
deziras lerni Esperanton. Sxi bone regas la francan kaj germanan
lingvojn, do sxi estas lerta lingvemulo! Pro tio ke sxi estas tute blinda,
malfacilas trovi rimedon instrui sxin, sed ni tamen trovos rimedon!

S-ro Tony Peterson tre bone progresas en sia Esperanto-lernado.
Kvankam li nur komencis lerni antaux unu monato, li tre
rapide progresas kaj nun nia ret-korespondado estas tute
en Esperanto. Li skribas Dankon, Gxis, Amiko, Amike and Pardonu
sen pensi kaj erare diras "dankon" al angl-lingvanoj. Ili
pensas ke li parolas la germanan lingvon!

Por la okazontaj kunvenoj:
La kunveno en Januaro estos lernado per "Jen Nia Mondo"
kaj jugxado por la konkurso. Ni atendas multajn komencantojn.
Se vi deziras ankaux havi la liston da libroj kiun ni havas (per .xls), simple skribu al mi.

Well, a new month, a new article, a new success. Here is the December
newsletter.

Coming events:
Next meeting: Saturday, 3rd of January at 3pm at the Newcastle EcoHome
(67a Hobart Rd. New Lambton 2305, diagonally opposite West's). This
meeting will be the judging of a competition to attend the congress in
Brisbane. If you wish to come, please contact me by email or otherwise.

You can undoubtedly see a bit of a difference in this treasury report.
A donation of $5000 has come from the Esperanto Federation of
NSW, but unfortunately they need to resend a new cheque because
the previous one didn't work. They also decided, in addition, to support
someone to attend Esperanto congresses over the next 5 years.

Society news:
On Saturday, the 6th of December we held our monthly meeting. Andrew,
Jonathan and Bill Aulsebrook attended. Bill finally recuperated his
seat, and we started to do the "Jen Nia Mondo" cassette course.
We voted in Andrew Spannenberg as our secretary and Jonathan
Moylan as president. We also accepted a report to got to the local
council, detailing our actions, history and structure and we accepted
the donation of the Esperanto Federation of NSW. Unfortunately,
Sue and Shani didn't attend, but after a phone call to Sue afterwards
I found out that they will move at the end of January and we can
ask the next residents whether we can keep having our meetings
at the EcoHome. Shani is learning from the posters (pronouns,
colours, correlatives, etc.) that we left at the last meeting.

On Saturday, the 13th of December the Esperanto-Domo in
Redfern (Sydney) held their annual Zamenhof-festo. Around
40 people attended but Andrew Spannenberg was the
only Novocastrian. "It was a great opportunity to converse
with people in Esperanto and sweat over phrases I don't
understand," said Andrew. Unfortunately, Andrew came
after the performances and just before the the meal, but
he caught the end of the puppetry.

Yes, again there has been an article about Esperanto in
"The Newcastle Herald". An anonymous stranger informed
me about the article when she phoned to ask "What
is Esperanto?". She didn't want to learn Esperanto or know
about our group, but simply said, "We were just wondering."

December in "Topics".

HERE'S some learning fun. The Newcastle Esperanto Society
is holding a competition to learn Esperanto. The person who
learns Esperanto the fastest will win a trip to the Australian
Esperanto Congress in Brisbane to be held from January 19-25.
Travel will be by coach and judging will take place at the
Newcastle EcoHome (67a Hobart Road New Lambton) on
Saturday, January 3, at 3pm.

Yesterday evening, a lady who read the article contacted
me and wants to learn Esperanto. She speaks French and
German well, so she is an experienced language-learner.
Because she is totally blind, it's tricky to find a way for her
to learn Esperanto, but we will find a way anyway!

Mr. Tony Peterson is doing very well in Esperanto. Although he
only started to learn Esperanto a month ago, he is progressing
very quickly and now our email correspondence is completely
in Esperanto. He writes Dankon, Gxis, Amiko, Amike and
Pardonu without even thinking about it and accidentally
says "dankon" to English speakers. They think he's speaking
German!

For the coming meetings:
The January meeting we will learn by "Jen Nia Mondo" and we
will have the judging for the competition. We are expecting
many beginners.
