Esperanto kurseto: Sabato, 11a Oktobro je la 3a ptm cxe la Novkastelo Ekologia
Hejmo (adreso super).
Dua sesio: Dimancxo 19a Oktobro je la 3a ptm cxe la PAN konstraujxo en Auckland
Str., Novkastelo-centro. Cxi tiu sesio estos parto de la "Fiesta" kultura festo.
Tria sesio: Sabato 1a Novembro je la 3a ptm cxe la Novkastela Ekologia Hejmo
kiel parto de nia cxiumonata kunveno.
Ni havas registrilojn haveblajn, nur petu al ni. La
kosto estas $5 kiu devas esti pagota antaux ol la fino SEPTEMBRO. Se ne
suficxaj lernontoj pagos, ni nuligos la kurseto, do nepre pagu frue. Se vi jam
havas registrilon kaj ne jam pagis, pagu frue. La $5 estas validaj por cxiuj
sesioj, sed ne nepras veni al cxiu sesio. La gastinstruonto por la unua sesio estos

Societaj novajxoj:
Je Sabato, Auxgusto 2a nia cxiumonata kunveno okazis. Jonathan kaj
Andrew cxe-estis. Ni renkontis la gepatroj de la enlogxanto de la Ekologia
Hejmo kaj tradukis la sxildojn cxirkaux la domo. Kiel grupo, ni decidis
demandi la venontan enlogxanton je la fino de la jaro se ni povas dauxre
estigi niajn kunvenojn en la Ekologia Hejmo. Andreo instruis pri la sufiksoj
"-ar" kaj "-acx".

Mi estis en Belgujo dum la monato de Julio kaj mi vizitis esperantistojn en
Antverpeno (la urbo kie ni logxis kiam ni estis tie). Mi vizitis la Esperanto-centro
de FEL (Flandra Esperanto-Ligo), la grupo kiu eldonas "Monato", kaj la
plej granda Esperanto-grupo en Belgujo. Mi vespermangxis kun kvin
esperantistoj (inkluzive "Stella" kiu sendas salutojn al Franciska). Mi parolis
dum horo kaj duono pri Auxstralio (tute bonaj reklamoj, krom nia
soci-politika sistemo, kiun mi iom kondamnis!). Esperantistaj komencantoj
de Bruselo venis por auxdi min cxar ili venos al Auxstralion post 3 monatoj.
Mi povis konsili mian retposxton dum la vojagxo, kaj unu tagon mi trovis
retmesagxon de Bob Felby, kiu skribis, "Se vi hazarde trafas la buson No. 1
en Antverpeno, la sxoforo estas esperantisto!". Sxajnas, ke Andries Lamers
estas la plumamiko de Bob Felby, kiun Bob neniam renkontis sed mi invitis
kaj parolis kun en Antverpeno! Antverpeno estas proksimume la saman
grandecon kiom Novkastelo, sed kvankam ni havas 9 membrojn, ili havas
500 membrojn! Ili donis al mi historio (en tri 25-jaraj sekcioj) de la Antverpena
Esperanto-Grupo ekde gxia kreigo en 1907. Nu, la mondo estas malgranda,
cxar sxajnas ke mia pra-pra-onklo (la onklo de mia avo) estis membro de
1921 problable gxis sia morto en 1952, kaj li ankaux estis sekratario de la
grupo!

Novajxoj el Esperantio:
La venonta AEA-NZEA Kongreso okazos la 19an gxis la 25an de januaro
2004 cxe Margate Conference Centre, Redcliffe. Bonvolu indiki vian deziron
cxe-esti cxar ili bezonos pli ol 40 partoprenantoj. Plian informon en la
septembra/oktobra novajxletero.

La NZEA kongreso okazis la 18an-21an de Aprilo en Christchurch kun
dudek partoprenantoj inkluzive Usonano, Japanano kaj tri auxtralianoj.
Franciska Toubale, kiu priskribis sian vojagxon en la lasta ESK, gxuis
sian unuan vojagxon en Nov-Zelando, kaj, evidente, instruis (do sxi povas
aldoni alian nacion al la landoj en kiuj sxi jam instruis!).

Fidela kaj famkonata esperantistino Florence Fay Koppel mortigis la 10an
de junio cxi-jaro, post preskaux 91 jaroj sur la tero. Naskigxinta en Adelajdo
en 1912, sxi estis unu el la nur 8 sukcesintoj en la AEA Klereca Ekzameno
kaj farigxis "Fratulo" de AEA en 1988. Nekrologio estas legebla en la
lasta ESK.

Penny Pym (nask. Vos) edzinigxis al Brad Pym kaj nun logxas en NSK.
Brad estas studanto de Penny kaj ses geesperantistoj cxeestis ilian
geedzigxon.

Here's the August newsletter. Because I've been away in Belgium
last month, there wasn't a newsletter, so here's this one!
Flyers for the course will be printed out soon... I'll send them out
to the members and anyone interested.

Coming events:
Next meeting: Saturday, 6th September at 3pm at Newcastle EcoHome
(67a Hobart Rd. New Lambton 2305, diagonally opposite West's). If you
want to come, please email me or contact me somehow. All are welcome!

Esperanto course: Saturday, 11th October at 3pm at the Newcastle EcoHome
(address above).
Second session: Sunday 19th October at 3pm in the PAN building in Auckland
St., Newcastle. This session will be part of the Fiesta cultural festival.
Third session: Saturday 1st November at 3pm at the Newcastle EcoHome as
part of our monthly meeting.
We have registration forms available, just ask for one. The cost is $5 which must
be paid before the end of September. If there aren't enough interested students,
we'll have to cancel the course, so please pay as soon as possible. If you
already have a registration form but haven't paid yet, pay early. The $5 are
valid for every session, but it isn't compulsory to attend all of them. The
guest teacher for the first session will be Franciska Toubale from Melbourne.

Society news:
On Saturday, August 2 we had our monthly meeting. Jonathan and Andrew
attended. We met the parents of the EcoHome's resident and translated
some signs around the house. As a group, we decided to ask the next
resident at the end of the year if we can continue to have our meetings
at the EcoHome. Andrew taught about the suffixes "-ar" (denoting groups)
and "-acx" (denoting disparagement).

I've been in Belgium during the month of July and I visited esperantists in
Antwerp (the city we stayed in while we were there). I visited the Esperanto
centre of FEL (Flandra Esperanto-Ligo - Flemish Esperanto League), the
group who publish "Monato", and the biggest Esperanto group in Belgium.
I had dinner with five esperantists (including "Stella" who sends a cheerio
to Franciska). I spoke for about an hour and a half about Australia (all good
advertising, except our socio-political system, which I condemned a bit!).
Esperantist beginners from Brussels came to my talk because they are
coming to Australia in 3 months. I was able to consult my email during
the trip, and one day I found a message from Bob Felby, who wrote, "If
perchance you catch the Bus No. 1 in Antwerp, the driver is an esperantist!"
Apparently Andries Lamers is the pen-pal of Bob Felby, whom Bob has
never met but whom I invited and spoke with in Antwerp! Antwerp has
roughly the same size as Newcastle, but although we have 9 members,
they have over 500 members! They gave me a history (in three 25-year
sections) of the Antwerp Esperanto-Group from the time of its creation
in 1907. Well, the world is small, because apparently my great-great-uncle
(the uncle of my grandfather) was a member from 1921 until probably his
death in 1952, and he was also the secretary of the group!

News in the world of Esperanto:
The next AEA-NZEA congress will be from the 19th to the 25th of January
2003 at the Margate Conference Centre, Redcliffe. Please inform the AEA
if you wish to come because they will need more than 40 participants. More
information will be available in the September/October newsletter.

The NZEA congress took place from the 18th-21st of April in Christchurch with
20 participants including one from the US, from Japan and 3 Australians.
Franciska Toubale, who talked about her trip in the last ESK, enjoyed her first
trip to New Zealand, and, of course, taught (so she can now add a new country
to the list of countries where she's already taught!).

A faithful and well-known esperantist Florence Fay Koppel died on the 10th
of July this year, after 91 years of life on earth. Born in Adelaide in 1912, she was
one of the only 8 successful people who have taken the AEA Klereca (absolute
fluency) Examination and became a Friend of the AEA in 1988. A necrology
was written in the last ESK.

Penny Pym (née Vos) has married to Brad Pym and now lives in NSW.
Brad is a student of Penny and six esperantists attended their marriage.
